The World Cup
La Coppa del Mondo
A homage to Mother Earth
A ritual of thanksgiving
for new harmonies between Humans and Nature
In October 2006 for the collective event “Mangia l’Arte” (Eat Art) and in March 2007, at the solo exhibition of paintings and installations at the Galleria Idearte in Potenza.
Installation with:
– a third of the Red Ribbon (60 m long x 2), the artist’s stylistic signature and, in 1999 on Etna, protagonist – with her and 60 other people – of the Symbolic Action “The Rhythm of Fire”, first stage of the real and metaphorical Journey “The Dance of the Rope”
– 50 x 70 cm photographs – white sand from S. Maria di Ricadi (Tropea)
– black volcanic sand from Stromboli – charred coffee – red begonia flowers – seeds and ears of wheat.

The Cup Teri Volini refers to is the very Body of Mother Earth, which the artist visualises by creating a circular space: a sacred place, the temple of a celebration in progress.
To this is added the colour red, which sums up vital energy, like the blood flowing in the bodies of the living and the fire in the body of the Earth.
With the rim of the cup thus made, the stem is “inside”: a deep tunnel reaching the centre of the world, into the bowels of the known and the unknowable.
It is on the edge of this terrifying, dark but at the same time fertile mystery that the human being – represented by the artist – pays homage with offerings: flowers, grains, ears of wheat and a handful of soil, recalling the fundamental cycle we all share, life – death – life.
A work in synergy with the poem of the same title published in the book UNIVERSI.

Some of Teri’s poems act as a counterpoint to her paintings or performances. Heightening feeling and vision nonetheless leaves the different modes of expression independent of one another: the poems are not meant to describe the other works, nor are the latter meant to illustrate the former. What matters is the balance, the happy union that is created, the synergy that arises, in that attempt to achieve the harmony and beauty at the heart of all Teri’s research.
