I am One with the Water – fivefold installation

Io sono Uno con l'Acqua – installazione

Fivefold installation of Teri Volini’s work in the city of Potenza

Artist’s Manifesto – Lifelong Learning

April – October 2010

22 April 2010 – presentation

To coincide with EARTH DAY, the world day dedicated to the Earth, the artist Teri Volini inaugurated her third Fivefold Installation in the city of Potenza, a communicative work that can be seen at any time, using the expressive forms of Body Art, Public Art, Urban Art and Participatory Art, in keeping with the lifelong education addressed to civil society and young people that is one of the aims of the Delta Centre, promoter of the initiative.

From April onwards, the giant image of the artist with the words I AM ONE WITH THE WATER could be seen in the following outdoor places: Viale Dante opposite the escalator exit, Parco Europa Unita, Piazza Prefettura, Piazza XVIII Agosto, via Appia railway bridge.

The Lucanian artist confirms her commitment to the environment through the Symbolic Action begun with the words in favour of the AIR in December 2009, at the time of the Copenhagen Summit, declaring her close belonging to the elements of nature so badly treated by human beings.

The meaning of the declaration, “written” on the artist’s own body, is clear and stern:

if we continue to consider ourselves separate from the Earth and to see in it only an object to dominate and exploit, the state of the planet can only get worse, and so will the quality of our lives.

If, on the contrary, we begin to perceive our close union with “the whole” of which we are part, we will no longer be able to go on damaging what we ourselves are, and we will begin to remedy a situation that is already far too critical.

WE ARE ONE WITH THE WATER, which makes life possible in all its manifestations; we want it healthy and clean, and we cannot allow it to be wasted through careless management, or management aimed more at private interest than at its preservation and quality.

We live on the Earth as guests – ungrateful ones, at that; we are nourished by its fruits; we breathe its air, we drink its water: it is necessary, indeed urgent, that we respect and preserve the precious common goods we enjoy; we must demand from the governors of the Earth, and from those of the place where we live, that they truly be intact goods belonging to everyone.
