I would like to tell you that, while the presentation of “The Awakening of the Goddess” continues – my touring exhibition inspired by Nature, its Sacredness and Beauty, by the “Feminine” and the values it voices and safeguards – I have begun an engaging journey, real and spiritual at the same time, “The Dance of the Rope”, whose first stage I carried out in Sicily on the volcanic mountain of Etna: a Red Ribbon of fabric, 180 metres long, built the first archetypal symbol, linked to my search for Harmony between the human being and the Universe (…). Meanwhile the inspiring Goddess, this demanding Muse, gives me no respite and, favouring me with Her gifts and Her presence, makes ever new ideas spring from my mind, which – with much effort but just as much joy – “I have to” then bring to life.
It would be lovely if you took part in one of these projects:
PLEASE SEND ME A 60 x 60 CM SQUARE, MADE IN THE TECHNIQUE YOU PREFER (KNITTED, CROCHETED, LOOM-WOVEN, CROSS-STITCHED, PLAITED…), PREFERABLY IN WOOL (OR WOOL BLEND) AND IN RED – A BEAUTIFUL RUBY RED, WINE RED, BLOOD RED…; UNDERNEATH, EMBROIDERED IN WHITE THREAD, YOUR NAME AND THAT OF YOUR MOTHER OR OF WHOEVER RAISED YOU.
Why this square?
Because I want to join it to mine, which I am finishing – crocheted, in the simplest single stitch… – to form a long red strip (like the RED RIBBON with which I have already begun the JOURNEY), but this time MADE BY HAND, by women, or by all those who “feel” or wish to revalue the values linked to the “Feminine” (which I hope will be recognised and present in men too, overcoming prejudice and dichotomies): care, reflection, the search for harmony and beauty, “slowness”, the preservation of Nature and of life in all its forms, and so on…
Making and sending each square will be a sign of great real and symbolic value, a testimony stronger than voice and writing, a symbol of friendship, a statement of agreement and encouragement for what I am doing as an Artist and as a woman. Once completed and received, the squares can first be exhibited (their aesthetic perfection matters less than “making them”, although anyone who wishes may create something original and personal…); then, joined together, they will be used for the following Performances, perhaps in the presence of all those who “made” them. All this is “participatory art”, in which the Artist is the catalyst of the silent creative energies hidden in each of us. I hope you will join this project of mine; if you really cannot knit or make the 60 x 60 square entirely by hand, you can make it another way, with a piece of red fabric of the same size, adding handwork (patchwork, collage, puzzle, or simply “writing” YOUR NAME and that of your mother or of whoever raised you with needle and thread – for example: Teri, daughter of Rosaria). Separately, you can write your full details on a 5 x 10 cm card, to be placed under the square during the group exhibition. Thank you in advance, and a big hug, confident of your positive reply.
Teri
