SOWING PEACE

SOPP – SYMPHONY OF PEACE FOR THE NATIONS OF THE WORLD
Parco Europa Unita – Potenza – Saturday 19 May 2012
Delta Centre for Art and Culture and Art&venti 2012

Two Events take place within this peace initiative:

THE INTERCULTURAL AND INTERRELIGIOUS CIRCLE

Already held together with the ceremony in Basilicata in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and so on, the CIRCLE aims to overcome religious, ethnic and all other differences through the energy of prayer, or at least of conscious participation. Representatives of the different religious and secular traditions present in the city will be invited to take part: Catholic, Hindu, Evangelical, Orthodox, Muslim, Buddhist, Shinto, Zen and so on – and secular voices too have their place, as long as they resonate with the energy of peace.

“Symphonies of Peace” by Nazzareno Sileno – article in Il Lucano on Issuu

Some of the peace ceremonies organised over the years in Basilicata:
– 2005: Demonstration for peace
– 2012: published on Facebook
– 2014: album
– May 2015: SOPP – Symphony of Prayer for Peace on Earth

FLAGS OF THE WORLD FOR A SYMPHONY OF PEACE

The flags of the whole world (the 194 recognised by the UN plus one representing all other nations) will parade in Basilicata too, in the Parco Europa Unita in Potenza; the “Ambassadors of peace” will be all those who, on this important day, hold dear the values of unity in diversity; they will raise the flags, accompanied by the word PEACE in the language of the nation featured each time, as a wish addressed to it. Everyone can watch or take an active part in the ceremony.

FLAGS OF THE WORLD FOR A SYMPHONY OF PEACE is felt as a symphony of prayer for peace – peace in personal, family and social life; a peace that inspires educational action towards our ideals, the true leaven of society, so that we may live in a better world, aware of investing in education for justice and peace. This theme goes to the heart of an urgent issue in today’s world: listening to and valuing the new generations in building the common good and affirming a just and peaceful social order, in which the fundamental rights and freedoms of the human being can be fully expressed and realised.
