Demonstration for peace

Delta Centre for Art and Culture – Teri Volini

Speech for a conference, Potenza, 25 May 2005

As a cultural organiser and president of the Delta Centre for Art and Culture in Potenza, I wish to announce that our Centre – also active in Rome and Milan – has constituted itself as an ENTERPRISE.

Anyone who wishes to become an entrepreneur of a great Work can take part in it:
THE WORK OF PEACE.

By joining this Enterprise free of charge, one instantly becomes a Worker of Peace, a builder of the new possible worlds, a sower of RECONCILIATION and BROTHERHOOD.

In keeping with this statement of intent, the Delta Centre aims to activate awareness and practice of interreligiosity and interculturality, seen no longer as obstacles – as throughout historical time – but as a driving force and an enrichment, personally and socially.

So in this exhibition the Delta Centre for Art and Culture presents two works: the first is by a North African artist, IMED BEN FARHAT, who with his HAPPY CONTAMINATIONS merges our flag with the Tunisian one, painting its colours and shapes with the word peace written in Arabic and Italian…

The second is the work of TERI VOLINI, DECLARATION OF IDENTITY, of which only a part is symbolically on show here: the first of her 201 identity cards, in which the artist firmly declares that she belongs to all the nations of the world.

This is because we firmly believe that Art can and must be a project of union, the premise for a new approach – freer and more constructive – to the world and to relations between the peoples who inhabit it, in which the common denominator is at last peace-making in justice.

Art can prompt reflections useful for understanding and accepting the concept of ONENESS, that sense of being One with all beings, whose realisation can no longer wait.
