The Wheel of Fortune

A Black Goddess,
the portentous energy of the Earth,
its fearsome power,
its dark colour,
the same as the Womb
from which everything comes,
supports the Wheel and protects it.
Ancestral signs and symbols imprinted
on her body
remind humans
of the gift of life,
the wealth and the original value
– Creating, Nourishing –
the Eternal Flow.
So art becomes one with the flowing
of existence. Witness
of the joy and the pain
that endlessly alternate,
of the magic
that always intervenes
in the turning of the Wheel,
in the hope that everything
may still be renewed.

Some of Teri’s poems act as a counterpoint to her paintings or performances. Heightening feeling and vision nonetheless leaves the different modes of expression independent of one another: the poems are not meant to describe the other works, nor are the latter meant to illustrate the former. What matters is the balance, the happy union that is created, the synergy that arises, in that attempt to achieve the harmony and beauty at the heart of all Teri’s research.
